Functional Medicine in Bath
When your symptoms don’t fit neatly into a box
Functional Medicine looks at the connections between your symptoms, history, lifestyle and health - helping us build a clearer picture of what may be keeping you from feeling well.
You may be here because…
You have several symptoms that don’t seem to fit neatly together.
Your test results may be ‘normal’ but you still don’t feel well.
You have a diagnosis but would like more support alongside your medical care.
You feel nobody has had the time to look at the whole picture.
Or perhaps you simply know that something isn’t quite right and would like the time and space to explore it properly.
How I Work
Your health rarely comes down to one symptom or one isolated system. I begin by listening carefully to your full story - how your symptoms developed, what was happening around that time, and how different aspects of your health may be connected.
Together we consider the factors that may be influencing how you feel, including nutrition, digestion, sleep, stress, hormones, medication, movement, and your medical history. I can also arrange for relevant testing or review previous investigations.
From there I’ll be able to help you identify sensible priorities and create a realistic, personalised plan. Where appropriate, this may include acupuncture and other treatment modalities alongside Functional Medicine - but only where it adds genuine value.
This approach may explore areas such as:
Nutrition and nutrient status
Gut health and the microbiome
Hormonal balance
Inflammation and immune function
Sleep and circadian health
Stress and nervous system regulation
Blood sugar and metabolic health
Lifestyle and environmental factors
Functional Medicine aims to understand these wider connections and support the body’s natural ability to heal and regulate itself.
Do I Need Functional Medicine Testing?
Not necessarily. I begin with your health history, symptoms, existing medical investigations and current circumstances. Often this provides enough information to identify useful first steps.
Where additional testing may genuinely change what we do, I’ll explain the options, likely value and cost before you decide.
What Happens at an Appointment
Your initial consultation gives us time to look at the whole picture. It usually takes around 90 minutes. We’ll talk through your current symptoms, health history, lifestyle, medication, previous investigations and what you would most like help with.
You’re welcome to bring any recent blood test results, medical letters or a list of supplements and medications. Before your appointment I may ask you to complete a detailed health questionnaire so we can use our time well.
Together we’ll begin to identify the patterns and priorities that may be most relevant to your health. Where appropriate, we may include acupuncture as part of this first appointment. You’ll leave with clear realistic first steps, and we’ll decide whether further appointments, testing or acupuncture would be useful.
There’s no fixed programme: your recommendations and follow up plan will be shaped around what you need.
